Flower Power Delivery
The intended delivery for this photo was to be on a front page of a newspaper (Washington Star). The photo should have supported a title describing the event of the protest. The photo would enhance the reader's perception of the event, and perhaps even help sway opinion. The photo is somewhat confusing to the casual observer without knowing the extent of the anti-war movement in the US. Even so, the flower, is a universal sign of peace, while uniforms, helmets, and guns, are a universal sign of order. Perhaps, even without a caption the message of the photo would be clear, although traditionally, it would appear with a caption in a newspaper. Similarly, in the Pulitzer Prize a description is presented.

I like the way you mentioned the contrast between the guns and and the flower, representing war and peace, respectively. I think this is a main idea of the photograph. One potential area of improvement would be the ambiguity in this post. In my opinion, the post seems to contradict itself. In the beginning, you say it may be "somewhat confusing to the casual observer" but later state that without a caption, "the message of the photo would be clear." This contradiction puzzled me, but overall, great analysis.
